The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Savelugu Nanton in the Northern Region, Mr. Abukari Atori has revealed that, the NPP government, in its second term of office, would place high emphasis on poverty reduction programmes to improve the living conditions of the women in the country, particularly the rural poor.
According to him, it had been the plans of the Kufuor-led NPP government to improve upon the livelihood of all Ghanaian women, through the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) and other new policies.

He therefore urged the women to open accounts in the various financial institutions at the rural level to enable them benefit from the package.

The DCE made this known at the Inaugural ceremony of the Borimanga Rural Bank at the Savelugu Market Square, Northern Region.

Mr. Atori commended the management of the bank for their quality service to the people in the area, which he said had helped to improve the economic standard of the people and the community at large.

He commended also the Bank of Ghana for the establishment of the Rural Financing System (RFS) through the rural banking services in the most deprived areas in the country. The DCE noted that, the bank had empowered and facilitated the economic activities of the villages in the areas and challenged the people of Savelugu to protect the Bank from the economic fraudsters and criminals who might be attracted to cause havoc to the Bank.

Mr. Atori pledged the Assembly’s commitment to serve the people of Savelugu Nanton with humility and honesty to create a vibrant economy in the district. He however, appealed to the people to patronise the services of the bank.

The consultant of the Bank, Mr Seidu from T. C Tandum Consult disclosed that the outstanding financial status of the bank was ¢700 million and urged corporate bodies and other individuals to patronise the available shares of the bank to help mobilise funds to undertake developmental projects in the district to the benefit of all.

He has therefore cautioned individuals who may be taking loans from the bank to make proper use of the funds and make sure the monies were paid back to enable others access the loans.

Also present at the function were the senior manager of Bomzali Rural Bank, Mr. Joseph Yamoah, Shaibu Seidu Abudulai, Credit Coordinating Director of IFAD (Bolga), and the chief and people of the Savelugu township.
