Salaga Secondary School in the Northern Region emerged winners of this year’s National Inter-school Constitution Game competition held by the National Commission for Civic Education in Accra last Wednesday.

The school received a public address system, 60 copies of the pocket-size Constitution, copies of the game, a metal plaque, as well as ¢400,000.

St Francis Xavier Junior Seminary in the Upper West Region placed second and received a 21-inch colour television set, 60 copies of the pocket-size Constitution, an ebony plaque and ¢250,000.

Anfoega Secondary School in the Volta Region came third and received a 20-inch colour television set, an ebony plaque, 60 copies of the pocket-size Constitution and ¢200,000.

The other schools who took part in the competition received amounts of money, megaphones, ebony plaques, among others, as consolation prizes.
The annual competition, which was started in 2001, is aimed at making the Constitution easy and friendly to the youth.

It is also to demystify the notion that the Constitution is a book for only lawyers and to educate the youth on it so that they will become law-abiding citizens in future.

Earlier at an opening ceremony, the Deputy Chairperson of the NCCE, Mrs Augustina A. Akumanyi, in an address, asked girls to rub shoulders with boys by taking up responsible positions in future.

She said women were unique in their own way and could do miraculously well when entrusted with very delicate assignments.

Mrs Akumanyi told the students to study hard and win academic laurels to enable them to contribute to the development of the country.

A mental health specialist, Mrs Agnes Dorsoo, expressed regret that many young people who had mental problems had been associated with drug abuse.
She advised the students to refrain from drug abuse, since it could destroy them.
