Ya Naa Yakubu
The Executive Secretary of the West African Network for Peace Building (WANEP), Emmanuel Bombandey says the consensus reached by the Andani and Abudu royal families for the burial of the Ya Naa potentially takes away the security threat that has dominated Dagbon.

After four years of protracted disagreement between the two royal families, the mediating group of eminent chiefs brokered a deal last Wednesday with a new road map for peace.

The late Dagbon King Yakubu Andani II will be accorded a state burial on Monday and officials of the regional administration say all the necessary security arrangements have been instituted for the ceremony in Yendi.

By the agreement reached, the deceased king’s first son will be installed as regent to further negotiate the peace process.

Mr Bombandey says the transitional process needs to be carefully managed to ensure that gains made in restoring peace to Dagbon are consolidated.
