Ya Naa Yakubu
The Northern Regional Police Command has expressed its readiness to provide adequate security for the entombment of the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, in Yendi next month.

According to the Regional Police Commander, Mr Ephraim Okoe Brakatu, “We have put the necessary measures in place to contain the security needs for the interment.”

He said although the current number of police personnel in the area was not adequate, it could be re-enforced if the need arose.

Mr Brakatu, in an interview in Tamale, said his outfit was also gearing up for the Tamale Central by-election, which, he said, could coincide with the burial.

The acting President of the Dagbon Traditional Council, Kuga-Na Abdulai Braimah, a couple of weeks ago, wrote to the three-member committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeking their indulgence to carry out his responsibility in relation to the burial of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II and the subsequent installation of the Gbang-Lana (Regent).

Barely a week after that, the Abudu Royal Family held a press conference in Yendi and also gave their consent to the interment of the late Overlord.

They, however, made it clear that, they would “resist any attempt to by-pass or hijack the peace process and subsequently install a regent after the burial without adhering strictly to the directives of the Eminent Chiefs handling the crisis.”

The Eminent Chiefs are scheduled to meet with the leadership of the Andani and Abudu Gates in Kumasi this week.

It is believed that the meeting would come up with amicable solutions to the concerns raised by the two factions in the chieftaincy divide.

The last time an attempt was made to entomb the Ya-Na was in April last year. It could, however, not come off following the entrenched positions by the Andanis and Abudus.
