The Abudu Royal Family in Dagbon has distanced itself from the program of activities released for the burial of the late Dagbon King Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II. Burial and final funeral rites are scheduled to start on the 29th of this month, to allow for purification of the palace, installation of a regent and other customary rites to be performed for the burial.
But the Abudu’s say they were not consulted by the Kuga Naa who Heads of Dagbon Traditional Council. The secretary to the Abudu family Majeed Bawa told a local radio station that members of the Abudu family were only served notice of the program of action without any proper consultation.
“We are not part of that programme at all, we were not consulted, we know absolutely nothing about the programme for the burial of the late Ya Na. But what we do know is that Dagbon has its elders, which the Kruga Na was supposed to be the head. He was supposed to be the head because in the absence of the Ya Na, it is the Gushe Na or the Gushe Na’s regent who should be the president of the Dagbon state.
The Gushe Na’s regent who is now acting as the Gushe Na should have been consulted because the Gushe Na by the custom of Dagbon or his regent has a role to play in the burial of the Ya Na,” he said.
