Aliu Mahama Foundation (AMF) has undertaken a clean-up exercise at Yendi township as part of efforts to promote a clean and hygienic environment to prevent diseases.

Scores of residents joined the exercise on Sunday to sweep, desilt choked drains, as well as collect heaps of rubbish at the Yendi Municipal Hospital, market centres and the Yendi main town.

The Yendi Municipal Assembly in the Northern Region has held a day’s public hearing on Draft Medium Term Development Plan (M.T.D.P) of the Assembly for the period 2018-2021.

The public hearing was to afford the public to come out with inputs for final MTDP for the area.

The local Government Act, Act 936 of 2016 establishes each District Assembly as the planning authority for the area of jurisdiction for the purpose of national economic planning. So the Law mandates all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAS) to prepare the Medium Term Development Plans every four years.

Mr Mahama Adama Walvis 52, a development worker and a youth activist who operates an NGO in Yendi was on Tuesday, unanimously confirmed as Yendi Municipal Chief Executive. In an election supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr Walvis polled 57 out of the 61 votes cast with two against and two spoilt ballot papers representing 93.4 per cent of the votes cast.
