Daily Guide has gathered that some Fulani herdsmen have stormed the Northern Region, particularly the Tolon District.
Most farms in the district capital have been taken over by cattle, a development which could lead to clashes between the local people and the herdsmen.
Recent clashes in Asante Akim Agogo and Kwahu in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions have led to several deaths.
According to sources, the herdsmen, who have migrated from neighbouring Burkina Faso, have taken over farms in Tolon and other areas.
Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed confirmed the development to DAILY GUIDE and said the regent of Tolon had phoned him to complain about the presence of herdsmen in the district.
The minister said he would collaborate with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the traditional rulers to find immediate solution to the problems.
He said the authorities were looking for alternative fields for the herdsmen to feed their animals without causing destruction to the farms.
The regional minister commended the Tolon Regent for his pro-activeness and determination to use appropriate channels to resolve the problems.
“The Tolon regent has given a one-week ultimatum that if they do not see any action from Regional Security Council (REGSEC), they will use all means to confront the herdsmen,” the minister said, adding that REGSEG was taking steps to tackle the issues.
He said REGSEC would involve all stakeholders in the area.
