The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, has visited the victims of the gory accident involving four Municipal and District Chief Executives for Gushegu, Nanumba North, Zabzugu and Mion in the Northern Region.

The MDCEs were part of a convoy travelling to the Upper West Region to participate in the launch of the Rearing for Food and Jobs programme by President Nana Akufo-Addo when the accident happened a few metres away from the Datoyili police barrier on Monday, 24 June 2019.

Class news gathered that a Mercedes Benz saloon car travelling from Accra to Tamale veered off the road and collided with the 4 x 4 vehicle of the government officials.

The MDCEs were rushed to the accident and emergency unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Class91.3FM, Hajia Mahama said the MDCEs have been stabilised and still responding to medical treatment.

"In fact, I was told in the morning it was bad but now they look better and I was able to converse with two of them; the Gushegu and Bimbila MCEs. The Mion DCE tried to talk and I had to calm him because it's not good to encourage them to talk at this moment," she said.

The minister disclosed that the Zabzugu DCE is still at the Intensive Care Unit but stated that he was able to sit up when she visited.

She commended the Head of the Accident and Emergency Department, Dr Godfred Takye and all staff of the hospital for the timely intervention in resuscitating the injured MDCEs.

She said though the Northern Regional Minister and the government planned flying them to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for treatment, the doctors at the Tamale Teaching Hospital advised against it.
