Residents of Zuozugu community in the Tamale Metropolis have been sensitised to observe all safety protocols instituted against the coronavirus disease.

This, according to the Northern Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, was to create awareness amongst the residents on the disease in order for them to adopt good behaviours toward the virus since nobody is immune to the disease.

Fifteen Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the Northern Region have been captured in the 2018 Auditor-General’s report for misapplication and diversion of monies amounting to GHC483,690.68.

A total of GHC47,056,420.30 was allocated to the 28 district assemblies in the Northern region for the year 2018 out of which GHC10,376,711.28 was deducted at source for service providers the assemblies owe, leaving a net of cash transfer of GHC36,679,70.02.

Indiscriminate dumping of waste, open defecation and silting of gutters are on the ascendancy in the Gushegu Township in the Northern Region creating nuisance in the area.

The situation has led to the creation of breeding grounds for mosquitoes, the incidence of diarrhoea and cholera; the spread of malaria and other sanitation related diseases in the municipality.

Mr Mohammed Zackaria Bakor, the Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE), has said two out of the ten dams under the One-Village-One-Dam (1V1D) programme have been completed.

He said out of the remaining eight dams, four were at an advanced stage of completion, two of them were 50 per cent complete while work on the remaining two is yet to commence.
