One person has been shot dead after residents of Choggu Manayili in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale attacked police officers on Wednesday, August 5,2020.

The police had been called by the chief of the area to rescue a suspected thief who was about to be lynched by the residents.

The mob turned on the police and attempted to stop them from rescuing the suspect.

A 26-year-old Mumuni Abilla, an Electoral Commission official, has been arrested by the Northern region police for conducting registration in his residence.

The suspect, a data entry clerk at the Kpanshegu registration centre in the North East Gonja District of the Savannah region had the BVR kit in his room at Vittin in Tamale.

Investigations by the police revealed that the suspect and his accomplice, one Mohammed Yushaw Kongsoha, a 32-year-old also a registration officer at the same centre had already registered 12 people.

The little girl Memuna according to her father known as Nayiri, a Fulani herdsman was in the house when his colleague also a herdsman came into the house of the Nayiri and took out deceased into the nearby bush and killed her.

Snippets of Information says the deceased little Memunatu was slaughtered even though one Alhaji Mustapha Sulemana whose cattle the Fulani herdsman who killed the little takes care of, gave a different version of the story. He said the girl was clubbed to death.

Police in the Northern region has launched a manhunt for an unknown gunman who shot two people in Tamale of which one of the victims died and the other in a stable condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The incident happened Wednesday dawn at about 4am at Nyanshegu in the Tamale Metropolis where the suspect demanded to have sex with one of the victims, a lady in her own room.

Alhassan Osman, 20 is in the grips of the Northern Regional Police command for allegedly murdering his sick mother Kubura Alhassan, 55, at Aboabo , a suburb of Tamale metropolis in the Northern region.

The suspect allegedly hit the mother who was on her sick bed with a metallic object multiple times killing her on the spot and escaped into a nearby bush in the area.
